Updated: Nov 9, 2021

  1. The reading proficiency of almost 2/3 of fourth-graders in the US is below grade level. (Library Journal 2020)

  2. The math grades of grade school students are 5-10% lower compared to same-grade students before COVID-19. (Brookings, 2020)

  3. 70-80% of people with poor reading skills, are likely dyslexic. One in five students, or 15-20% of the population, has a language based learning disability Nationwide 20% of the elementary school population is struggling with reading (Dyslexia Center of UT).

  4. 80% of children with an IEP have reading difficulty and 85% of those are Dyslexic. (Dyslexia Center of UT)

  5. 30% of children with Dyslexia also have at least a mild form of ADD/ADHD. (Dyslexia Center of UT).

I believe that one-on-one tutoring is essential for students to fill the gap that is widening because of the COVID pandemic. I currently work in a public school setting where I help 2nd grade small groups with reading, writing, and math. I see students struggle with reading and math every day. If you feel your child is struggling it is important to have a professional run diagnostic testing to evaluate any learning gaps and close them by personalizing, promoting, and tailoring lessons to your child's needs through developing different strategies.
